Claudine Sidonica Mahin

Claudine Sidonica Mahin, a longtime resident of Alexandria, Virginia, passed away at home on July 9, 2017. She was born on June 16, 1928 in Madagascar of French parentage dating back to the 16th century on both sides of her family, paternal in Normandy and maternal in Gascony. 

Claudine traveled throughout her life extensively worldwide. Well into her mid-80s she retained her zest for traveling, reading, writing well-appreciated travel logs and dancing.

Claudine Mahin was the widow of Col. Frank Cadle Mahin, Jr., USMA '44. They had two children, Philip Michel Mahin and Leslie Mahin MacCallum. Her subsequent marriage to Maj. Gen. George W. Putnam, Jr. ended in divorce.

Claudine will be interred at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery next to her beloved husband Frank Mahin, Jr. She is survived by her equally beloved children, their spouses Jonathan Gross and Bruce MacCallum and her granddaughter, Noelle MacCallum.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Carpenter’s Shelter or Animal Welfare League of Alexandria.
