I served with Eric at JFC Brunssum. During a NFIT trip to Lithuania I got to know more about this larger-than-life character and his amazing family. Not one for idling away his life, Eric used to update me on his family's tour of the European/NATO countries....a remarkable feat of visiting so many places in such a short space of time. I particularly enjoyed our annual Burns Night supper rendezvous'. You set the bar high, Eric, and in doing so you prepared your family to cope, no matter waht adversity faced them. My heartfelt condolences to you all; thank you for permitting me the good fortune to have met you all. Nigel (Public Affairs Office)

I had the pleasure and privilege to serve with Eric at his last duty station. He was a truly outstanding officer and devoted family man who will be missed by all who knew him. Although our service together was short I considered him a true friend and my thoughts are with his family.

We forget those who don't care and forever remember and treasure the people that simply recognize us. Standing and listening, saying hi, good morning or do you need anything? LTC Gouldthorpe and family helped me mature both personally and professionally. I was always moved by his daily motivation. My deepest condolences go out to the Gouldthorpe family. Thanks for the scotch, Sir. Cheers.

Erin, my heart goes out to you and the boys. I cannot fathom your loss, but I am confident he is looking on you and is at peace we cannot know until we join him and prost a good glass of whiskey with him. God Bless you for your strength, love and constant care you provided Eric and your boys through these last few years and an Army career.

Colleen and I were at church Last Sunday and the first song was "Jesus Draw Me Nearer". We both immediately recognized Eric in it. The verses below said it all; it was a bittersweet moment. I hope they provide some comfort. Your all in our prayers and I will never forget Eric! Raising a glass in his honor tonight and every Ground Hog day from now on!

Let the treasures of the trial
Form within me as I go
And at the end of this long passage
Let me leave them at Your throne
Jesus draw me ever nearer to You

May this journey be a blessing
May I rise on wings of faith
And at the end of my heart's testing
With Your likeness let me wake

My deepest condolences to the Gouldthorpe family. I told my 15 yr old son if he remembered MAJ G and at first he said no. But when I reminded him of the party we went to at his house and he made s’mores for the first time ever he immediately remember and got extremely sad. Thanks for the memories Sir. You will never be forgotten.

Erin, Gouldie, Pam and Kelly,

It is so hard to comprehend Eric's passing and the tremendous loss that represents. He was such a great friend. Reading through his tribute brings back so many wonderful memories of our childhood and all the great times we had. Getting the Civic stuck on an icy back road and needing Gouldie to bail us out. Playing together in the Regional Golf Championships in High School. Tackle football on Thanksgiving. Eric was always such a steadfast friend and I have no doubt he was a loving husband and father.

He will be missed by so many and please accept my condolences.

Aaron

Our sincere sympathies go to the Gouldthorpe family at this very difficult time. Having been a fellow U.S. Army officer, we understand the joys, challenges and separations that military life brings. At this time the entire Gouldthorpe family is going through probably the most difficult challenge, but we are confident that your family will stay strong and continue to remember the joyous times in Eric's life. We have been praying for Eric throughout his illness and will continue to pray for his soul and for his family. Stay strong.

We are unbelievably saddened at Eric’s passing. Carla and I are very blessed to have had him in our life and to have been able to call him friend. Although time and distance may have kept us apart, I will always consider him as one of my best friends and brother-in-arms. It was one of the honors of my life to have served with him. Eric was an amazing husband, father, and officer... an amazing guy. Our hearts are broken for you and your family.

With love and prayers,

Dear Erin and family,
I wanted to wish you and your family our deepest sympathies in this tough time. Eric was just finishing up his high school career when I came into Amherst County. but as I worked and interacted with his dad at school, mom and sister in a variety of settings, I was well-aware of his career and accomplishments. You and the family have so much to be proud of. A fine young man who has been taken from us way too soon. Please accept my family's Christian sympathies and know that Eric is with the Lord and someday in the future, you will be joined again.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Eric's family and with Pam, Goldie and the rest of the family. I know Eric put up a real battle. Even though he was battling, every time I saw a picture of him on face book, he still had that smile. We did not get to see Eric due to his deployment; however, we did get to see him and his wife at a baseball game in Madison Heights where they were watching one of the sons play ball. We were really glad to see them and get to talk to them for a few minutes. Again our hearts, prayers and thoughts are with the family.

Erin, Easton, and Everett,
Thank you for sharing Eric with all of his Army family. Eric was the first person I met when I moved to Fort Bliss and he treated me like family. He was a true professional that loved his Army family, but most of all he loved you three. I can't convey how much happiness and love he brought to everyone he touched. He is in heaven and will be watching over all of you. Remember the good times and his love.
