Anne Kerlin Groves

February 8, 2024

Tribute

Anne Kerlin Groves, 75-years-old, passed away surrounded by family on Thursday February 8, 2024 while under hospice care at her home of 46 years in Arlington, Virginia. Anne was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in April 2022. Her strong will to live and the immense love and support received from family and friends helped Anne bravely soldier through treatments at Walter Reed Medical Center. Even on the toughest days when the chemotherapy would take a significant toll on her body, in typical Anne fashion, she remained optimistic and emitted positivity to all those around her. After putting up a valiant fight for almost two years, Anne left this world surrounded by those she loved and held dear to her heart.

Anne met and married her one true love, David Groves Sr., in Winchester, Virginia where she was born and raised.  They moved to Arlington, Virginia in 1969 and raised two beautiful sons, David Jr. and Michael, whom she fiercely loved.

Anne’s adventurous soul guided her through many amazing experiences. She had a tremendous zest for life and was an avid fan of the Washington Capitals, seldomly missing a game.

Anne was also an avid lover of music. Anne helped write for The Relay which was the American news letter for The Who. Her passion for music remained prevalent throughout her life as she enjoyed attending live shows often with friends and family. She fostered her children in their music endeavors throughout their formative years and was their biggest cheerleader in attending all of their live concerts. This love of music was also passed down to her grandchildren, Nicholas and Ian, who are amazing musicians in their own right.  Her youngest grandchild, Heleighna, affectionately referred to as Miss Boo, brought an immense amount of joy to her heart. She loved each one of her grandchildren beyond measure.

Anne graduated with a Masters in English Literature from George Mason University. She taught at several different high schools in Arlington and Alexandria Virginia and loved attending Shakespearean plays at the Folger and Shakespeare theaters in Washington, DC. Anyone who was blessed to know Anne knew that she lived unselfishly and loved with reckless abandon. She fiercely and genuinely loved those close to her heart and always put the needs of others above her own. Her hearty laugh, witty jokes and infectious smile will never be forgotten.

Anne is survived by her loving husband of over 56 years: David Sr., sons: David Jr. and Michael; daughter-in-law: Filiz; niece: Amanda; nephew: Randy; and grandchildren: Ian, Nicholas, and Heleighna.
