Beatriz M. Chia Cordova - 1958 – 2024

It is with great sadness we announce that Beatriz Maria Chia Cordova of Alexandria, Virginia, passed away peacefully, on March 7, 2024, at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington DC, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on November 7, 1958, in Puerto Chico, a charming coastal town near Barranca, Peru, Beatriz was a loving daughter to Andrew Chia Obregon and Beatriz Cordova de Chia (who predeceased her). Growing up in a caring, loving, and hard-working family instilled a sense of selflessness in Beatriz that carried on throughout her life.

Beatriz, lovingly called Betty, embodied unwavering dedication in every role she embraced. Throughout her beautiful life, she was a devoted daughter, a pillar of support for her siblings, a caring aunt, and a wonderful friend.

As a mother to Kishia Maria Brooks, and Jovanne Luis Delgado, Betty's love and dedication knew no bounds. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, unwavering love, and care that will forever be cherished by her offspring.

Two bright lights in Beatriz's life were her granddaughters, Leanny (2005) and Anyla (2013). Whether sharing a coffee run with Anyla, filled with giggles and chatter, or helping Leanny explore the world of makeup, offering tips, and sharing stories, these everyday events became cherished moments that brought immense joy to each of them.

Early on, Beatriz immigrated to the United States in 1978, settling in New Jersey.  Always a go-getter, she quickly mastered English as a second language, and proudly, went on to serve eight years of military active duty in the U.S. Army, rising to the rank of Sergeant.  Her dedication extended beyond active service, continuing with the Army Reserves before receiving an honorable discharge in 1985.

Leveraging her education and patriotism, Beatriz, also became a United States citizen in 1986, a monumental achievement filled with great pride.

With a new life chapter beginning, Betty transitioned from Schweinfurt Germany to civilian life in Maryland. As a Case Manager for the state's Shelter and Transitional Housing Facilities program, she showcased her compassion and unwavering dedication to reducing homelessness for battered women in Maryland.

Never one to rest on her laurels, in 1999, Beatriz utilized her skills and experience to focus on a new career path in business administration for dental practices across the Washington DC and MD areas. This successful career spanned over two decades and her contributions allowed multiple dental practices to produce seven-figure annual revenue streams consistently.

Her accomplishments allowed her to retire early in 2019. Following this milestone, she reconnected with her Peruvian roots through cherished journeys back to her family home in Puerto Chico. She reveled in reuniting with family and old friends, immersing herself back into the warmth of family gatherings, vibrant local events, and the rich tapestry of Peruvian culture.

In May 2023, Beatriz was bestowed with a prestigious cultural honor – the title of "Mayoral" for the Festival of the Cross in her beloved Puerto Chico. This distinction, reserved only for a select few, held deep significance within the community. The annual event, dedicated to Christ the Redeemer, is a time of celebration and reflection.

As Mayoral, Beatriz would have played a vital role in the upcoming festivities. She was brimming with excitement about returning to Peru to fulfill these important community duties – a testament to her deep connection to her roots and her unwavering commitment to giving back.

However, The Lord, in his infinite wisdom, called her home first, granting her an even higher honor – a place of peaceful rest in his presence. 

With our hearts overflowing with love and burdened with deep sorrow, we, her family, and friends, come together to celebrate the life of this remarkable woman. Her radiant smile, kind ways, and heart of gold leave a lasting legacy.

Her memory will forever be a source of strength and inspiration, guiding us all, as we carry on her spirit.

Beatriz is survived by her children; Kishia M. Brooks (KeKe) and Jovanne L. Delgado (Jovi), her granddaughters Leanny and Anyla, her father Andrew (CA), her brothers Andres (CA), Lorenzo and sister-in-law Rita (NJ), and Israel (CA), her nieces Jocelyn (VA), Ashley (NJ), Britney (NJ), and nephew Sean (NJ), her aunt Maria Alejandrina Cordova (widow) de Acuña (Peru), and her former spouse and friend, Luis E. Delgado (PR).

A funeral service for friends and family will be held Thursday evening from 3-7 PM, the 21st of March and Friday morning from 9 AM - 1 PM, the 22nd of March at Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home at 1500 W Braddock Rd, Alexandria, VA 22302.

Following the Friday funeral service, a funeral mass will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church at 2 PM.
