Iva Lewis Hutchins

Iva Lewis Hutchins of Alexandria, VA was welcomed by her Lord and Savior to her true
and Heavenly home on Tuesday November 6, 2018.

Mrs. Hutchins was born October 25, 1919 to James Alden Lewis and Esther Ewton
Lewis in Dunlap Tennessee. She was married on August 31, 1945 in Chattanooga, TN
to Stonewall Jackson Hutchins of Benton, TN. Jack and Iva were married until his
passing in 1989.

Mr. and Mrs. Hutchins moved to Alexandria, VA in 1945 and were employed by the
Department of Defense. Iva was a secretary for Army Chief of Staff General
Westmoreland, at the Pentagon, and was awarded many commendations. She retired
in 1972.

Mrs. Hutchins was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Alexandria, where she
served as a deacon and president of her Sunday school class. She loved her family and
church family, and they loved her. She was a leader for Community Bible Study and a
volunteer for Meals on Wheels.

She was preceded in death by her parents Alden and Esther Lewis, siblings Dorothy
King, James A. Lewis Jr., Inez Noel, Max Lewis, nephews James A. Lewis III, and
Tommy Lewis, nieces Robin Stewart, and Janette Noel. She is survived by her brother
David Lewis (Pam) of Signal Mountain TN, sister-in-law Margaret Lewis, nieces Sylvia
Lewis, and Cathy Noel, and nephews Thomas King (Dixie), J. Lewis King (Donna), Eddie
Lewis (Becky), Steve Lewis (Sherra), and niece Melissa Lewis, as well as several great
nieces and nephews, along with their families.

Visitation at Everly Wheatley Funeral Home, 1500 W Braddock Rd. Alexandria, VA on
Wednesday November 14th 1-4pm. Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday
November 15th at 11am at Everly Wheatley Funeral Home.
