Our beloved Javon Prather was a Specialist of the Maryland National Guard, B Co., 1st Battalion, 175th Infantry Regiment. He was tragically taken from us at the age of 24 on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 in Springfield, Virginia.

Javon comes from a large family who loves him deeply. He is survived by his beloved parents Shavon Prather and Khari Williams; his wife Janelle Sonja Prather; his step daughter Amaya Brown; his brothers Kuran Prather, Nikko Prather, Khamari Williams, and Maleek Young; his sister Ashlynn Williams; his sister-in-law Delice Sanders; his aunts Terri Teresa Prather, Leola Hall, La’Shown Nicole Prather – Sterling, Keigan Williams, Tania Molina, Janet Hughes, and Christin Sullivan; his great-aunt Juanita Thomas; his uncles Omari Williams and Devin Conroy; his grandmothers Janet Prather Whittaker and Mercedes Hughes; his grandfather Robin Williams; his extended grandfather Aaron Whittaker; his cousins Antonio Franco, Destine Franco, Tina Allen, Malik Arnez Carter, Sheena VanFossen, Omar Williams, Neymar Williams, Kai McKim, Nicole Hamilton, Andrew Hamilton, Natalie Hamilton, The Prather’s, The Addison’s, The Stephens; The Brown’s; and his godson with his namesake, Javon. Javon also survived his beloved dog Tink who he rescued and adored.

Javon was born on February 7, 1996 at Shady Grove Hospital. He graduated from Albert Einstein High School in June 2015. Javon joined the Maryland National Guard Reserves in October 2015. Javon was awarded the Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon.

Javon was full of life and he loved to spend most of his time with his family. He had a very close bond with his mother, his siblings, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Since the day Javon was born, he always had a smile on his face and a loving energy about him. He loved to laugh and make others laugh. If you were having a tough day, Javon would be the one to make you smile and comfort you. Javon was successful academically and was an avid reader. Javon loved to create music and was a local performing rap artist by the name of Malik Redd. Javon had a passion for physical fitness since he was a child and enjoyed weightlifting and boxing. Javon enjoyed the outdoors and loved to travel and explore. Javon simply loved life and wanted to make sure that those around him loved it as much as he did. Javon knew the Lord and accepted Christ as his Savior. Early in his life Javon frequently attended Shepard Park Christian Church with his grandmother Mercedes and his cousins. He was a true Servant of the Lord and in doing so he chose to serve his Country. Javon will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and anyone who knew him.

A viewing service will be held on Friday, March 13, 2020 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home located at 1500 W. Braddock Road, Alexandria, VA 22302. There will be a viewing held on Saturday, March 14th from 10:00-11:00 AM at Shepherd Park Christian Church located at 7900 Eastern Ave, NW, Washington, DC 20012 followed immediately by the funeral service. An interment at Parklawn Memorial Park in Rockville, MD will follow the service.
