Jeanne Burke Muller

January 22, 1922 ~ April 27, 2021 (age 99) 99 Years Old

Tribute

Jeanne (Burke) Muller of Arlington, VA, died on April 27, 2021, at the age of 99.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, on January 22, 1922, and raised there and in Woodhaven, NY, she was the eighth of nine children of the late William and Mary Burke. She was married in 1944 to George W. Muller, also from Woodhaven, while he was home on leave from wartime service.   Following the war, they raised their family in Levittown, NY; Drexel Hill and Malvern, PA; Andover, MA; Elkhart, IN; and Ridgewood, NJ, eventually becoming the parents of five children.   Mr. Muller died in 1985 after 41 years of marriage.

Before and after her hard-working years as a full-time mother and homemaker, Mrs. Muller was employed as a secretary, first in Manhattan and later in New Jersey.  She always remembered her years working in Manhattan as especially exciting ones for a young woman.

Mrs. Muller moved to Arlington, VA, in 1991, where she was active in the Fairlington Historical Society and Fair Golds and participated in a bridge group and exercise classes.  She was especially proud of her role in securing a historic designation for Fairlington Villages.  As her more active years came to an end, she became a real political junkie, monitoring the Washington Post, CNN, and MSNBC with a close eye.

Mrs. Muller is survived by four of her children:  Kathleen Muller (Michael Wright) of Harwich, MA; William Muller (Kathleen Benarick) of Worton, MD; Christopher Muller of Arlington, VA; and Eileen Muller of Manchester, CT.  She also leaves her six grandchildren: Charles Muller, Matthew Burke Gold, Kathryn Gosselin, William Gosselin, David Gosselin, and Michael Gosselin; her great-grandchildren, Roarke Bray-Gosselin, Julian Kiss-Gosselin, and Gabrielle Gold; her sister-in-law Eleanor Gonzales Burke; many nephews and nieces and their families; and her friend Janet Corson, the mother of her grandson Charles Muller.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Muller was predeceased by her eldest child, George W. Muller, Jr., in 2019; an infant grandchild, Emily Gold, in 1982; and a step-grandchild, Keating VanDorsten, in 2017. She was predeceased as well by her eight siblings:  James Burke, Rose (Burke) Browne, Marion (Burke) McGrath, Jean Frances Burke, Ruth Burke, Eileen Burke, Frances (Burke) Todd, and William Burke.

A funeral Mass will be held at Blessed Sacrament in Alexandria on Saturday, June 5, at 11:00 a.m.  Burial in St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY, alongside Mrs. Muller's husband and parents, will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the American Lung Association or So Others Might Eat (SOME).
