John R. Gibson

John R. Gibson (age 90) died peacefully on July 14, 2018 at Goodwin House in Falls Church, Va.  A resident of Arlington, Va. since 1963, he was a career journalist, first for the Wall Street Journal and later with U.S. News and World Report magazine, where he was an editor for 22 years until his retirement in 1988.  Raised in Sultan, Wash., he was educated at the Univ. of Washington and Columbia Univ.  He was an active member of the Church of the Covenant (Presbyterian) in Arlington, and of the Cosmos Club, where he served a term as President.  He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Gloria Gould Gibson, and by Robert (son) of Arlington, Mary (daughter) of Alexandria, and two grandchildren.  Memorial service to be held on Sat., July 21, 2:00 p.m., at Church of the Covenant, 2666 N. Military Rd., Arlington, VA 22207.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Church of the Covenant or the Cosmos Club Historic Preservation Foundation.
