John Joseph Hughes Laverty

John Joseph Hughes Laverty of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away on March 9, 2023, after a struggle of more than a decade with dementia.

John grew up in Lynchburg and graduated from E. C. Glass High School. After graduation he served in the U. S. Army and the Reserves for eight years.

He graduated from Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, NC and later served as a teacher in the North Carolina school systems.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents, Vincent Aloysius Laverty and Mary John Burnham Laverty.

He is survived by his former wife Teresa Reynolds; their two sons, Preston and Chance;  his three brothers, Thomas (Nancy), James (Marty), and Robert; and by a niece (Mary Corinne) as well as four nephews (Jacob, Robert, Charles, and William).

His remains will be interred at Quantico National Cemetary later in the Spring.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
