Karen Grace Dunn of Alexandria, Virginia died at home after a lengthy illness on July 10, 2018.
She is survived by her parents, Frances (McKinney) and Edmund J. Grace of Reston, Virginia, her husband Gregory Dunn, daughter Katya Dunn and son Sergei Dunn of Alexandria, daughter Michele Thompson (Ernest) of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, step-son Mike Dunn of Arlington, sisters Debbie Williams (Priestley) of Alexandria and Beth Grace (Kelly) of Baltimore, and grandsons Alex, Ernie, Jonah and Hayden Thompson of Harrisburg. Also survived by several nieces, nephews and in-laws who loved her.
Karen was born July 8, 1958 amid the opening salvos of civil war in Beirut, Lebanon. Under doctor’s orders, she was not to be moved for eight days, at which time she, her mother and the consul’s wife were the last Americans evacuated from the war-zone. It would be curious if a historian could confirm that the timing of the United States Marine Corps landing on the beaches of Beirut on July 16, 1958 was influenced by this little baby. It would seem appropriate.
Karen had a unique way of looking at things which, combined with curiosity, tenacity and troubleshooting skills, served her well in a long career of user service in information technology. People sought her out because they knew she could get their blasted computers to work.
Relatives and Friends may call at Everly Wheatley Funeral Home, 1500 West Braddock Road, Alexandria, VA 22302 on Sunday, July 15, 2018 from 4 to 8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Rita Catholic Church, 3815 Russell Road, Alexandria, VA 22305 on Monday, July 16, 2018 at 11 am. Interment is private.
We will miss her kind heart. She hated to see any person or creature suffer. Please consider a donation to your local animal shelter in her honor.
