Tribute

A celebration of life and love for Marjorie Lucille Gardner Glick

Marjorie “Peggy” Glick was born on September 15, 1924 to Nance and John Gardner.  She and her younger sister Bobbi lived most of their childhood in Portsmouth Virginia.  Her father John worked at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard.  Peggy attended the Miami University of Ohio after high school.

While working as a stewardess for Capital Airlines, based in Washington DC, Peggy met the love of her life Major Jacob E. Glick, USMC.  They were married on December 7th, 1951.  They spent the next 20 years living where the Marine Corps sent them- Camp Lejeune NC, Quantico VA, Hawaii, and Alexandria VA.

They raised 3 children - Dr Jeffrey Glick, Susan Glick Waller, and Maj Thomas Glick, USMC retired.  Peggy loved to entertain and have guests at their house.  When Jake retired from the Marine Corps, she became one of the inaugural tour guides for The Washington Guide Service.  She loved to travel and when she wasn’t working, she and Jake found time to go on cruises and visit other countries.  They especially enjoyed trips with Jake’s siblings.

In June 1995 they moved into The Fairfax, a full-service retirement community in Ft Belvoir VA.  Peggy served on numerous committees and was recognized as Volunteer of the Year.   She and Jake were founding members of the Belvoir Woods Protestant Mission Society.

Peggy was very active in retirement.  She enjoyed painting with oils and acrylics. She was a member of the Belfair Artist Society and always had new paintings to display at the gallery in The Fairfax.  Some of her art was even featured in the Retired Officers Association Magazine.  She loved to cook, read, and spend time with her family. Peggy was the consummate Marine wife and a wonderful mother.  Despite what life threw at any of us, she would always say “Just love each other.”

Peggy was active at the Fairfax until Jake passed away on Aug 24th, 2011.  After his death, we learned that she was fighting a battle with Dementia which ravaged her mind and body.  For the next eight years she resided in the Reminiscence Memory Care Program and the Skilled Nursing facility at The Fairfax.  She fought her Dementia with dignity and poise.  Peggy entered into heaven with the Lord on February 3rd, 2020 and is rejoicing with Jake.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jacob Glick, her parents John and Nance Gardner, and her sister Bobbi.  She is survived by her children Jeff, Susan, and Tom, her grandchildren Cathy, Alexa, and Jake, and her great-grandson Evan.

Peggy will be interred with Jake at Arlington National Cemetery.  Service information is pending.
