Mary Pauline (Polly) Anthony Barbee  

Of Voorhees, NJ, originally of Annandale, VA, died on Sunday, July 25, 2021, one day shy of her 65th birthday, with her husband of 37 years, Mike, by her side. Born on July 26, 1956, in Pittsburg, PA, Polly was the second oldest of seven children and the oldest daughter. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy in Alexandria and The University of Virginia, where she majored in Math. Polly and Mike met at General Electric in Crystal City in 1981. Polly then joined CACI (later ESRI) where she worked as a statistician, analyzing and projecting U.S. census data, until her retirement from ESRI in 2019. Polly had a passion for and deep commitment to her work, and she was well-respected and loved by her ESRI colleagues. She is survived by her husband, Michael J. Barbee, and her six siblings:  James R. Anthony, Jr (Susan, deceased); J. Patrick Anthony (Laura); Ralph Abell Anthony; Elizabeth Rubenstein (Mitchell); Marietta (Mimi) Saunders (Andy); and Rebecca Davis (George). She also leaves behind three nieces and eight nephews, who knew no kinder, giving person than their Aunt Polly. Beach visits were filled with basketball games and putt-putt golf, homemade chocolate chip cookies, card games and old movies. Birthdays and holidays brought expressions of love through perfect cards and presents tailored to them. Polly was predeceased by her father, James Richard Anthony, Sr.; her mother, Marietta Abell Anthony; and her nephew, Devon Rubenstein. A visitation will take place on Friday, July 30, 2021 from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm. at Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home,1500 W. Braddock Rd., Alexandria, VA, 22302. A Mass of Christian burial will be on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at 11am at St. Rita Catholic Church, 3815 Russell Rd, Alexandria, VA, 22305, with a burial and celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Polly’s name to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Catholic Charities USA, where she gave generously.
