Mary Ruth Link Stacy

June 29, 1933 ~ July 31, 2020 (age 87)

Tribute

Mary Ruth Stacy had a personality and a beingness that touched everyone.  She was funny, stern, needy, kind, introverted and extroverted.  She struggled and triumphed.  If you talked to her friends, they'll inevitably say that she was one of their favorite people.  She made an impression.

Mary was born the youngest child of Fred and Julia Link in Alexandria, Virginia.  She attended Alexandria public schools before her father, an attorney with the Department of Veterans Affairs, relocated to Marietta, Georgia outside of Atlanta.  There, she graduated from Marietta High School and was a member of the band.  She then went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Georgia where she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority.  Her mother told her not to marry too young so she kicked up her heels for a few years and even took a trip to Europe.

Mary was brilliant and beautiful.  My dad certainly thought so.  After her father relocated again, this time to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Mary interviewed for a technical editor position at the Western Electric telephone manufacturing plant there where my dad was working as an electrical engineer.  He went to his boss and said, "Hire her and put her next to me!"  They had three children and two grandchildren and were married for nearly 60 years.

An avid collector, she also liked to sew and knit.  She loved the church, studied the bible, and was a fan of television evangelist Joyce Meyer, watching her preach weekly.  Mary Ruth Stacy had a good heart and she lived a good life.

Mary is survived by her husband, Bill Stacy, her children, Steve, Julie and Charles and her grandchildren, Will and Hannah Stacy.

Mary Ruth Link Stacy ultimately succumbed from complications of Myelodysplastic Syndrome.  In lieu of flowers, her children would be honored if you would send donations to www.mds-foundation.org/donate in her memory.
