It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our mother, grandmother, and friend, Nancy Loker at the age of 74. Nancy was born in Dodge City Kansas and grew up in Indianapolis Indiana. She spent her young adult life as a Hoosier, living in Indianapolis and Bloomington. She was a graduate of IU and developed a lifelong love of languages while studying Italian as an undergraduate at IU. Nancy moved to Alexandria Virginia in the 1980’s to work on
Capitol Hill. Nancy worked on the Hill for many years before moving to, and eventually retiring from the technology sector. Although not many people know it, she was a talented artist when she was younger and did many beautiful drawings. Nancy loved animals very much and always loved to come visit the menagerie of pets at her son Alex’s
house in Alexandria. Her favorite activity after retirement was to hang out with her grandson Max; to watch him play video games, or go to the movies together. Nancy always had a smile and a laugh for her grandson, and you would think they
were two kids playing together, not an “old lady” and “grandchild”.
Nancy was always full of love and support for her family and she will be sorely missed.
Nancy is preceded in death by her parents Robert Coates, Ruth Coates, and her sister Margaret Hill.
Services will be private.
Please feel free to donate to the Alexandria Animal Welfare League in her honor. The link is posted below. There is also a "Tribute Wall' tab on this web page if you would like to leave a personal note.
