Nicholas Mario Corvelli

NICHOLAS MARIO CORVELLI, Jr. (Age 92) Nick went to be with our Lord and Savior, Sunday July 7, 2019 in Alexandria, VA. Beloved husband of nearly 70 years to Maria Christina Fontana Corvelli; loving father of Christina Maria Corvelli (Jan van der Eijk), Michael Carlo Corvelli (Lu Anne Corvelli), and Patricia (Trish) Ann Corvelli (Jason Force); Grandfather of Erica Lindsay Bazow (Chris Bazow), Marisa Christina van der Eijk, Stefan Nicholas van der Eijk, and Joshua Michael Corvelli; Great-Grandfather of Reese Ashton and Andi Hendrix Bazow; brother of Angelina Emanuele; and Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Nick was preceded in death by his son Nicholas Mario III (Nicky), parents Nicholas Mario Sr. and Elsie Frederica Corvelli, his sister Gloria Zurmuhlen, and his brother Vincent Corvelli. Nick was born and raised in Washington, D.C., where he attended Truesdell Elementary School, Roosevelt H.S. and McKinley Tech H.S. Barely 18-years-old, he served in the 7th Infantry Division, 2nd Regiment, and 32nd Battalion in the U.S. Army in World War II in Saipan and Okinawa. Nick was wounded in the Battle of Okinawa and received the Purple Heart Medal. After returning from the war and working in the family dry cleaning business in Washington, D.C., he opened his own dry cleaning plant in Alexandria and continued to operate in the metro area for 35 years while adding several satellite stores. After retiring from his dry cleaning business, Nick worked part-time for Long & Foster Real Estate. Nick was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Alexandria for over sixty-five years and loved both church where he and his wife worshipped as well as the associated elementary school where his four children attended. He served in the Alexandria Lion’s Club for over sixty years (having started as a Charter member of the Alexandria Golden Lions Club in 1958) in many leadership positions including President; Nick also was a Volunteer at the Alexandria Hospital for over twenty years and regularly enjoyed line dancing with a local group in Alexandria at Blessed Sacrament Church. Together with his wife, he loved gatherings with his large Italian-American family, his neighbors, and friends at church, as well as with their friends at Panera’s in Alexandria, VA. Nick loved spreading joy by sharing his stories and always made us laugh with his charm and sense of humor. Family and friends may call at the EVERLY-WHEATLEY FUNERAL HOME of Alexandria, VA where the family will be present from 4:00-7:00p.m. on Saturday, July 27. Funeral Services will be offered on Sunday, July 28, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1801 Russell Road, Alexandria, VA, with a viewing at the church at 1:00 p.m., funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Interment immediately afterward at Mount Comfort Cemetery, followed by a Celebration of Life meal at Immanuel Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to: Immanuel Lutheran Church and School, Alexandria, VA; The Epilepsy Foundation; or, the Alexandria Host Lion’s Club.
