Patrick Pierson

1942 ~ 2019 (age 77) 77 Years Old

Tribute

Patrick Pierson, 77, of Alexandria, Virginia passed away peacefully December 6, 2019. He was born in Brownsville, Texas and a graduate from Delton Kellogg High School in Delton, Michigan and the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.  Pat served in the United States Army as well.

From 1977 until his retirement in 2006, Pat was the principal owner and chief executive of a specialized technology consulting company, APA, Inc..  Having his own business allowed Pat to earn his living by having a “job he could control” – one that allowed him to focus on his lifelong interests in information technology and military affairs.   In the 1980s and into the 1990s, Pat’s expertise in database technology, process control, and defense logistics was sought after by large defense contractors, such as Computer Sciences Corporation.  After his retirement, Pat continued to serve as an advisor to APA through 2016.

On a personal level, Pat’s imposing build and basic shyness created an impression of gruffness that was contrary to his true nature.  Pat was the rare businessman who cared more about his people and his clients than he did about profits.  And under his gruff exterior was a man with a heart of gold.  He was happiest sharing a good meal with friends and hosting his employees and clients at his annual December holiday party.  Pat spared no expense to make sure his guests enjoyed themselves, including live music by Stephanie on the violin and Lou on the accordion.  And when the duo launched into “Hail to the Redskins, “he was the leader of the singalong.  Pat was a unique man, and he will be missed by all who knew him.

Pat is survived by his two sisters Lorraine Hood, Pam Paynter; brother and sister-in-law Allan and Sandra Hamilton; nieces and nephews Jeffrey and Michael Hood, Kristen Kaplan, Lyndsay McGreevy, Chris Hamilton, Colleen Phillips, John and Kathy Hamilton, Debby Slater, Beverly DeBonis, Jeff and Cindy Hamilton,  and his best friend Sandra Francis.

He was preceded in death by his mother Fay Lemley Pierson, father Edward James Pierson, and wife of 32 years, Margaret Hamilton.
