Ruth Thomas Hartley

Ruth Thomas Hartley departed this life on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at the age of 96.  Ruth was born on September 11, 1922 in Tyler, TX to Samuel and Carrie Cox Thomas. She had one younger sister, the late Kathleen Burton.  In 1944 she eloped to marry Russell W. Hartley, then a young Army Lieutenant. Throughout their happy 54 year marriage they lived in California, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, and Georgia before settling in Alexandria, VA. Ruth was a gracious hostess, a master organizer, creative with needlework crafts, and a loyal friend. She was a devoted and active member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Memorial donations may be made to the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria or Trinity United Methodist Church. Please continue to check back for burial announcement details.
