Christopher George Corbett, Sergeant First Class, U.S. Army, age 35, passed away with his family by his side, on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 after battling Stage IV Melanoma. He was a loving husband, father, son, and brother who lived his life for God, loved his family and country endlessly. Born April 9, 1983 in Delaware, Ohio to Jim Corbett Jr and Diane Bayless. He graduated from East Wake High School in Wendell, NC then went on to join the U.S. Army in August of 2001. During his years of service, SFC Corbett’s military education included Airborne School, Special Forces Basic Combat Course, Battle Staff Noncommissioned Officer’s Course (Commandant’s List), Advanced Leaders Course, Senior Leaders Course (Distinguished Honor Graduate), and many more. He was the recipient of several military awards to include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, and the Order of Titus to name a few. His civilian education includes a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Human Resource Management as well as the Knowledge Management Professional Certification from American Military University. Chris honorably served his country in the U.S. Army at first an Infantryman and lastly, a Chaplains Assistant. In his 17 year career, he served in South Korea, was deployed, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, Operation Iraqi Freedom, US Army Africa, Southern European Task Force in Italy and was deployed in support of Operation United Assistance in Liberia. He then was assigned to Operations Group - Joint Readiness Training Center and Fort Polk, LA. His last assignment was with the Office of the Chief of Chaplains at Ft Belvoir, VA before passing at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. In February 2006, he married the love of his life, Jeralyn Cajes in Seoul, South Korea. From there they came to the United States and lived in matrimony for 12 years and were blessed with 2 intelligent children, Elijah, and Micaela. Chris is survived by his beloved wife, Jeralyn; his children: son, Elijah; daughter Micaela; his mother, Diane Bayless; father, Jim Corbett Jr; step-mother, Laura Corbett; siblings, JR, Lisa, Bethany, and Allison as well as Aunts, Uncles, and cousins.
