Simone Marie Woung

Simone Marie Woung, 51, of Potomac, Maryland, born November 20, 1971, passed peacefully while surrounded by family on March 17, 2023.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Simone spent her early childhood on the island before moving to Miami, FL. She attended the University of Miami for her undergraduate education and obtained her law degree at Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, DC.

Simone has been with Georgetown Law for 30 years where she touched the hearts of students, faculty, and staff. She left Georgetown for three years to lead the Registrar’s Office at Marymount University, but answered the law center’s call to return and lead the Office of the Registrar as Assistant Dean. Simone committed herself to providing exceptional service to students, staff, and faculty, with the expectation that they make the world a better place. She was an individual of unparalleled class, integrity, and inclusiveness.

On November 1, 2008, she married her best friend, Carl Binns. Meeting on Valentine’s Day in 2004, Simone and Carl have been together for more than 19 years. She is also extremely proud of her nine-year old daughter, Taylor Elaine Woung, one of the greatest joys of her life.

In addition to her husband and daughter, she is survived by her mother and father, Lois & Maurice Woung; her siblings, Andi Woung and Marguerite Woung-Chapman; her niece Jordan Bingham; brothers-in-law Stanley Chapman, III and Milos Zaro Marisavljevic; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. “Bones,” as her father called her, will be incredibly missed for her mischievous smile, sense of humor, and positive spirit.

There will be a Memorial Service to celebrate Simone’s life on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. The service will take place at First Christian Church of Alexandria, 2723 King Street, Alexandria, VA 22302.
