Winifred Helen Gladys Hastings Olson

     Winifred (Win) Olson, age 96, of Alexandria, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on February 28, 2020. She was born to the late William Charles and Doris Ellen (Clark) Hastings in Pukekohe, New Zealand on March 10, 1923. She grew up in Matamata.

     Win Hastings came to America as a war bride in 1947, marrying Darwin Olson in Finley, North Dakota and settling in the D.C. area. She made many friends due to her kind and gentle nature. Win was a devoted wife and cherished mother with 3 sons. She loved children and taught Sunday School at Faith Lutheran Church for many years. She took care of many children through the years and developed close attachments to their families. She was “Auntie Win” to so many.

     Win was preceded in death by her husband, Darwin; her siblings Doreen, Joan, and Robert; and by her son, Edvard. She is survived by her sister, Patricia; 2 sons, Trevor and Keith; 2 daughters-in-law, Sharrie and Ann; by grandchildren Kristin, Devin (wife Elisse), Ethan and Paul and by a great-grandson, Everyn. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews in America and New Zealand. She will be greatly missed by us all.

     There will be a viewing at Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home, 1500 W. Braddock Road, Alexandria, Virginia 22302 on March 10, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

     A graveside service and burial will follow at Mount Comfort Cemetery, 6600 South Kings Highway, Alexandria, Virginia 22306.

     In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the American Heart Association in memory of Win.
